Natural Arthritis Remedies: Fact or Fiction?
Arthritis is one of the most common medical conditions for which people seek alternative or natural remedies. Why? It’s obvious that conventional treatment options for osteoarthritis and other forms of arthritis are simply inadequate. Despite this, there still exists a fair amount of skepticism as to whether or not natural arthritis remedies actually work!
In terms of conventional treatment options, the outlook is fairly bleak. Typical options simply offer some degree of temporary pain relief. You can talk to your doctor about taking pain medication such as acetaminophen, or if you’re healthy enough to handle the side effects of NSAIDS, you might try those. After that, you can get joint injections for certain joints such as the knee with options including corticosteroids or hyaluronic acid. Steroids actually destroy your joints while providing pain relief, so there a last ditched option prior to joint replacement or other forms of surgery.
Alternative treatments include popular choices such as glucosamine sulfate, s-adenosylmethionine (SAMe), or devi’s claw extract. For a detailed discussion of the science behind these supplements: Natural treatment options for arthritis.

Here’s a demonstration of the technique for doing reverse grip bench press:
Other related research suggests that ingesting caffeine prior to working out helped subjects complete more bench press repetitions and to use greater amounts of weight.

Energy Drinks Side Effects?
Over the past few years, the popularity of energy drinks has literally skyrocketed. One related concern for many parents involves the vast quantity of these drinks that they’re children consume.
Do you have an adolescent who drinks 2 or more energy drinks on a daily basis? If so you’re probably concerned about the potential side effects that may result.
According to recent research, here’s a list of possible side effects from energy drinks:
- Seizures have been reported
- Stroke
- Heart related problems: arrhythmia , heart attacks, increase in blood pressure
- Seizures
Reviews of studies on Energy Drink Safety:
Again to corroborate previously supplied information, a review of studies listed on Medline regarding the safety of Energy Drinks yielded the following pieces of information.
First, from a study published in June of 2010 in the journal, The Physician and Sportsmedicine:
Guarana, which contains caffeine in addition to small amounts of theobromine, theophylline, and tannins, is also recognized as safe by the FDA, although it may lead to caffeine toxicity when combined with caffeine.
The combination of caffeine and guarana is one potential concern though each ingredient is generally regarded as safe when used alone.
Most energy drinks also contain sugar in an amount that exceeds the maximum recommended daily amount.
The amount of sugar found in energy drinks can be quite alarming.
Energy drinks combined with alcohol are also gaining popularity in young adults, which poses significant concerns about health risks.
Though there hasn’t been a wealth of research on this topic, the combination of Red Bull and Vodka, can be dangerous particularly since younger adults often consume an excess of both while drinking.
Other health concerns related to consumption of energy drinks include case reports of seizures and cardiac arrest following energy drink consumption and dental enamel erosion resulting from the acidity of energy drinks.
Dental enamel erosion isn’t often discussed, but it can be a concern given the PH of energy drinks.
Raw Food Diet Overview?
Over the past few years, one diet that’s become increasingly popular is the Raw Food Diet. While some will say that the raw diet or raw food diet as it’s alternately referred to is simply a passing fad, others will take offense to that statement. Raw foodies as they call themselves are very passionate about their meal plans. For them, eating raw food has more than simple health benefits or connotations as the raw food experience encapsulates more of a lifestyle choice as well as a philosophical belief system.
Raw foodies will often suggest that cooking food destroys many of the nutrients that are inherently present in food. As well, they’ll point to the potential dangers of cooked and processed food throwing around terms like ‘toxins’ which can damage your body.
Is this just another passing fad or is there some merit to the raw food diet?

Nine natural remedies for gout?
Gout can be a painful condition which commonly affects the large toe. Gout itself has gotten a bad rap as the ‘disease of kings’ over the years because it’s associated with your intake of purines found in red meat.
It’s actually a metabolic condition which means there are important dietary factors associated with gout.
Research has long show that one of the natural remedies for lowering your uric acid levels is simply consuming bing sweet cherries. Accordingly, consuming 280 g of bing sweet cherries has been shown to have possible benefits. It’s speculated that the vitamin C found in these cherries is largely responsible for this effect.
